Name
Kate H. is a shortened version of my penname. However, people have been calling me Kate since elementary school and now you can too.
Age
22
Look
I’m somewhat pale (I like to say porcelain) but I tan in the summer. I have light brown hair that is long with a slight wave. I styled it using a picture of Constance Welch from Supernatural as inspiration. My eyes are ice blue and I'm about 5'10. I've been told I look similar to Emily Deschanel, Jennifer Lawrence, and Evan Rachel Wood.
Purpose
I'm a writer and have always thought about starting a blog. A few months ago I began a blog about the American Civil War since I'm a researcher and reenactor. I've been researching H.H. Holmes for a while and decided to open this blog because of my fascination with him and my love for sharing information with others.
I was wondering about that. Why is H.H. Holmes pictured on the blog header?
This is a blog about H.H. Holmes. That being said, remember that this blog will deal with some controversial people and events in history. Please read with an open mind. And though I don't embellish much, please note that these are my personal thoughts and opinions. I'm not going to write a textbook.
Wasn't H.H. Holmes a serial killer?
Yes. Holmes is considered the first documented serial killer in America. But I am a sympathetic person and am willing to learn and give people a chance without passing too many judgments. Holmes had reasons for his murders. He was not just a heartless monster who hacked people with one hand and twirled his mustache with the other. However, I do not take light or romanticize what he did or who he was. He committed horrible acts that affected many people in very negative ways.
What about the others who knew Holmes? Will they be mentioned too?
Yes. There a more people than just Holmes pictured on the header. This blog is meant to discuss all topics about and related to Holmes. That includes the World's Fair Hotel/Murder Castle, the Holmes-Pitezel Case, the victims, and so on. This is not a blog about just Holmes himself.
I get Holmes on the header. Who are the others? Who is the woman? Why is she there?
All the way to the right is Holmes' assistant (and eventual victim) Benjamin Pitezel. The woman is Minnie Williams. She was romantically involved with Holmes and one of his identified victims. Some historians claim that Holmes and Minnie were married. However, since a record as never been found, others claim that they weren't. Holmes did reveal in one of his confessions that he loved Minnie. Maybe it was just another lie but I'm a bit of a romantic and prefer to think it was the truth. That's why she is pictured too.
Why are you interested in Holmes?
His story fascinates me. How he was able to get away with what he did is baffling but also kind of inspiring in a rather sick way. Holmes was a genius, a self made man. He was a working class farm boy who pulled himself up by his bootstraps and made something of himself. He reveals a lot about American society and what it had become by the 1890's. Plus, there are so many different layers to explore and I love that.
Do you have interests besides Holmes?
Of course. Like I said, one is the Civil War. When I started college I was a theatre minor and still love to perform and dress up. My favorite musical is Jekyll and Hyde. My favorite book series is The Clique. My favorite televisions shows are Bones, Alias, Supernatural, Modern Family, and Seinfeld. I also love dogs, travel, going on adventures with friends, roller coasters, baking, and different forms of art.
How can I contact you? Do you have an email?
As of now, I do not have my email listed on the blog. If you would like to leave a comment or ask a question, please go to the "Leave a Message" tab. You can also sign the guest book by clicking on "The Hotel Register." However, please keep it clean and respectful. Anything less will be deleted.
